The Pedrozzi Foundation expanded its partnership with the school district by supporting Principal Alberto Solorzano’s efforts to create a college-bound culture among students and families at Marylin Avenue Elementary School, whose student population has a low percentage of parents who earned college degrees. To help create such a culture, the foundation invited eight fifth-grade Principal Honor Roll students to be recognized and congratulated at our 2016 Scholarship Recognition Event alongside our 2016 scholarship recipients. Pedrozzi Foundation Outreach Committee Member Monica Moya, Ph.D., who was the first in her family to attend college, encouraged the students to continue aiming high and use the support of their families, teachers and community to reach their academic goals. Foundation representatives were also honored to attend the Marylin Avenue School year-end awards assembly and present academic achievement medals to these students. The goal is to motivate these young students to see themselves as future college students, and to let them know that there are many support resources along their college-bound path.
