This summer, several Pedrozzi Young Scholars and their families had the wonderful opportunity to attend a live performance presented by SPARC Theater – Shakespeare in the Vineyard, at the scenic Darcie Kent Vineyards in Livermore. For many of the students, this was their first time experiencing live outdoor theater, and the evening made a lasting impression.

The performance, Sir John Falstaff and the Merry Wives of Windsor, was reimagined in a setting inspired by 19th-century Livermore. The show’s humor, clever disguises, and fast-paced stunts had the audience laughing and engaged from beginning to end. Students were especially delighted to recognize some local references and historical touches that made the production feel personal and rooted in their own community.

Beyond enjoying the show, the students got to spend time with their peers and families in a relaxed and enriching environment. With popcorn in hand and blankets on the grass, the Scholars watched the sunset over the vineyards before the lights came up on stage. This kind of shared experience is at the heart of the Pedrozzi Young Scholars program, which provides students with opportunities that spark curiosity, build community, and broaden their cultural horizons.

Attending Shakespeare in the Vineyard allowed the Young Scholars to see the arts in action, appreciate live performance, and reflect on the storytelling power of theater. We’re proud to be able to offer experiences like this that deepen learning beyond the classroom and help students grow into well-rounded, thoughtful individuals.

We thank SPARC Theater and Darcie Kent Vineyards for creating a welcoming and inspiring space, and we look forward to returning next year with even more Pedrozzi Young Scholars under the stars.
