This summer, Pedrozzi Young Scholar (PYS) middle school students had the opportunity to participate in a week-long Robotics Camps hosted at Las Positas College. The camps were made possible through a collaborative partnership between Las Positas College, the Pedrozzi Foundation, and Quest Science Center.

Throughout the week, students explored robotics, engineering, and computer programming by using block coding to build and operate robots constructed from LEGO® components. The camps were supported by two teachers from Junction Avenue School, along with Las Positas College students and Quest Science Center interns who served as mentors and role models.

Beyond learning technical skills, students experienced life on a college campus, collaborated with peers, worked alongside mentors, and developed confidence through hands-on problem-solving and teamwork. The week culminated in a special showcase on Friday afternoon, where parents and guests were invited to learn more about educational opportunities available through Las Positas College and Quest Science Center, and students proudly presented their projects and shared what they had learned throughout the camp.

Robotics Camp Week 1: Rising 6th and 7th Graders

The first camp welcomed students from the PYS Cohorts of 2025 and 2026. Eighteen Pedrozzi Young Scholars participated, representing two-thirds of the eligible students in those cohorts. They were joined by 16 additional students from Junction Avenue and East Avenue Schools, creating a collaborative and engaging learning environment.

Robotics Camp Week 2: Rising 8th and 9th Graders

The second camp served rising 8th and 9th grade students and welcomed 35 participants, including 15 Pedrozzi Young Scholars. Students continued to strengthen their coding, robotics, and presentation skills while building connections with peers and mentors.

The Robotics Camps provided an exciting introduction to STEM learning while helping students envision future educational pathways. By combining hands-on learning, mentorship, and exposure to a college environment, the camps encouraged students to explore new possibilities and develop skills that will benefit them for years to come.
