All middle school Pedrozzi Young Scholars (PYS) were invited to tour Las Positas College (LPC), including the Public Safety Complex and STEM Department; twenty-six PYS participated in the fun outing. Students met PYS Program Manager, Maggie Tufts, and Pedrozzi Executive Director, Carolyn Siegfried, at Junction Ave K-8 School and walked to a nearby bus stop to catch the Wheels Bus to LPC. This was a great opportunity for the students to see for themselves how accessible the campus is for Livermore residents.

While at LPC, students visited the Public Safety Complex. They explored classrooms where potential future police officers receive classroom training in preparation for field work. Students also toured the STEM department where they examined rocks, minerals, and the sand table after learning how LPC supports and engages STEM students. On the bus ride back to Junction Ave K-8, the students discussed how impressed they were with the LPC campus and discussed their interest in taking classes there one day – maybe while still in high school.

We are fortunate to have one of the top ranked community colleges, in California and nationally, in Livermore! Thank you to the Las Positas staff for welcoming our students, and for providing such a great tour of your beautiful campus!
