This time last year, the Pedrozzi Young Scholars and families were gathering together for the Annual Family Potluck Social, full of socializing, laughter, food, games, and fun. In 2021, the event looked a little bit different; the Scholars and families participated in the first Virtual Family Social.
Pedrozzi Young Scholars from all five cohorts were invited to the event. A key component of the Pedrozzi Young Scholar program is the involvement and encouragement of the Pedrozzi Young Scholars’ parents and families. The Family Socials are all about building community while having fun.
Along with the Scholars and families, community partners, volunteers, and supporters attended this event. Dr. Kelly Bowers, Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District (LVJUSD) Superintendent, welcomed everyone. Dr. Bowers shared a message of congratulations and encouragement with the group. Along with Dr. Bowers, LVJUSD Board of Education Members Craig Bueno and Kristie Wang were in attendance. In addition, several Pedrozzi Foundation Board Members participated. Many members of the Pedrozzi Young Scholar Working Group, including City Council Member Gina Bonanno, joined the event. This group of dedicated community volunteers helps the program flourish. Pedrozzi supporters Art and Donna Pontau, the first donors to sponsor an entire Pedrozzi Young Scholar Cohort, also attended. It was exciting to see so many community partners and advocates at the event.
One of the highlights of the evening was an interactive magic show by Caleb Cheung, Chief Learning Officer from Quest Science Center. Everyone had a great time playing bingo. This bingo was a special version, as the cards included the Scholars’ past activities and speakers, along with some locations and colleges they’ve visited.
Overall, it was a wonderful evening with the Pedrozzi Young Scholar community.
