We are proud to highlight Malana Island, a 2025 Pedrozzi Scholar who recently began her second year at UC Berkeley. Malana is studying Industrial Engineering, and she has explored this interest through classes ranging from environmental chemistry to social justice. These classes have both strengthened her technical skills and allowed her to better understand the broader environmental issues that engineers can address. At UC Berkeley, Malana is a proud member of the Transportation Engineering Team, which allows her to create sustainable solutions for traffic problems. She is also an editor for The Daily Californian and a member of the Cal Club Water Polo Team.

Malana shares:

“Your scholarship has allowed me to dive fully into my academic, professional, and extracurricular pursuits without the constant burden of financial stress. Because of your generosity, I have been able to focus on growing as both a student and a person while taking advantage of the incredible opportunities UC Berkeley offers. Thank you once again for believing in my potential and investing in my future. I am excited to continue learning and growing in the year ahead.”

As a recipient of the Joseph P. McMenamin Ecology and Environmental Sciences Scholarship, Malana expresses her gratitude to Patrick and Madeline McMenamin and the Pedrozzi Foundation for helping to make this next chapter possible.

Congratulations, Malana! We wish you all the best at UC Berkeley this fall.
