On Thursday, December 11, the CONNECT Youth Program held its second session at Junction Avenue School, welcoming 29 middle school students for an engaging evening centered on the theme Science Is Everywhere.
Quest Science Center led the session with an interactive Engineering Exploration activity that challenged students to design and build sail cars. Using a basic car frame, students created and attached their own sails, then tested their designs on a track powered by large fans. After initial trials, students had the opportunity to refine and improve their sail cars, applying problem-solving and critical-thinking skills along the way.
The middle schoolers enthusiastically embraced the challenge, designing fast models and racing their sail cars against one another in friendly competition. The hands-on experience encouraged creativity, collaboration, and a deeper understanding of how science and engineering are part of everyday life.
In addition to the engineering activity, students learned a new card game and played in teams of two. Each participant received a deck of cards to take home, giving them the opportunity to continue playing and sharing the game with family and friends.
Thank you to Quest Science Center for providing a fun, educational, and inspiring Engineering Exploration activity for the CONNECT Youth Program. Their partnership helped make this session a memorable and meaningful experience for our students.
