2023 Pedrozzi Scholar, Bhhavya Sharma shares an update from her experience at SJSU. We hope you had a great experience at your internship and congratulations on a great first year!

Bhhavya writes:

I continue to graciously thank Art and Donna Pontau for funding my scholarship. It has been a tremendous honor to be chosen and it has assisted my first year of college so much. The scholarship has eased a load off my shoulders, and for that, I am immensely grateful. My first year at San Jose State University was an experience I will never forget. I have met so many new people and friends and I am looking forward to meeting tons more. It was the first time I had to continuously travel a long way to San Jose by myself every day since I decided to commute this year. It was a huge change from high school, but it was certainly a circumstance that made me a stronger person, having to deal with the intricacies of public transport as well as driving around new places.

As for my academic progress at San Jose State, I am pleased to say my studies have been going very nicely. Majoring in Computer Science, I’ve discovered, is no easy feat. The classes quickly proved that point. But I held strong, studied for many consecutive days, and tried my very best to adequately pass my classes. I try not to slip into the C region of grades, and so far, I’ve been successful. Throughout the year, I’ve joined the Computer Science Club as well as the Software and Computer Engineering society. There, we talk and collaborate on a Discord channel, helping each other with coding projects and internship opportunities.

Also, speaking of internships, this year, I managed to score my first one! Usually, it is difficult for first years to be accepted into internships, but this year, I’ve been accepted by the Alameda County Fair Association to become their IT intern for the summer! I really think it is a huge step toward my goal and will look great as I build my resume. I have learned a lot through this internship about the workplace and the world of information technology. I was also introduced to computer networking which is a helpful skill that is well sought after. It is also a fun experience, to be able to help put on and run the annual summer fair. Overall, this past year has been a wildly successful one. The transition from high school to college was a big leap, but one that was manageable thanks to the wonderful people around me. The old ones and the new ones. So once again, thank you!
