Alexandra Hernandez, a 2014 Scholar, attends Point Loma Nazarene University as a nursing major. She shares her opportunities traveling abroad and competing in collegiate athletics:

I got to apply my nursing skills abroad as I went to Haiti for three weeks as a part of a medical mission trip through my university. In Haiti, we set up various mobile medical clinics throughout the countryside and got to see patients of all different ages with a wide variety of issues. We worked through a pre-existing organizer in the community to make sure our impact was long-standing. This trip gave me a new perspective on so many things and it was such a joy being able to become part of such a different culture, and live alongside the incredible people of Haiti.

In addition to nursing, I have continued to have the opportunity to run for my university’s track and cross-country teams. This year, our cross-country team improved tremendously as we made it to NCAA Division II Regionals. In track season, I was voted most outstanding track athlete by my incredible teammates. This next year (2016), we are expecting to have even more outstanding athletes come in, so I am excited to see the growth in store for our team. I am so thankful for Pedrozzi because without scholarships like these, everything I have been able to experience at college would not be a reality!

Alexandra graduated from Point Loma Nazarene University in 2018 and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from the University of Alabama, Birmingham.
