The 2023 Pedrozzi Scholarship applications are open. Livermore students pursuing college and career training are encouraged to apply. At least 80 scholarships will be awarded this year to help defray the costs of attending vocational training programs, community colleges, and universities. Eligible applicants must be graduates of the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District, and may be high school seniors, college students or older adults pursuing college degrees or career training certification.
Applications are accessed here and are due February 24, 2023. $459,000 was awarded in scholarships in 2022.
The majority of scholarships are funded through the endowment established by Mario Pedrozzi and are awarded to eligible students without regard to a specific field of study. However, annually a number of scholarships are funded by generous community members and awarded to students who meet the Pedrozzi scholarship eligibility criteria and who are pursuing specific fields of study. In 2022, these scholarships will be awarded in addition to the general Pedrozzi scholarships:
- Charles Amirkhanian Music Scholarship – Music – $5,000 undergraduate or graduate scholarship
- John Houghton Undergraduate Scholarships – STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering or Math – $10,000 undergraduate scholarship
- Kim Cupps Memorial Undergraduate Scholarships – STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (Through a partnership with the Livermore Lab Foundation, recipient may be eligible to receive a paid internship at Lawrence Livermore National Lab when he or she is a rising college junior or senior.)
- Patrick and Madeline McMenamin Nursing Scholarship – Nursing – $5,000 undergraduate or graduate scholarship
- Francis Burnham Vocation Scholarship – $2,000+ vocational scholarships
- Bill Geyer Memorial Scholarship – for students pursuing careers in the medical field
- Richard Zufan Apprenticeship Tool Scholarship – for apprentices in the ABC NorCal Apprenticeship program
- Hunter Diemert memorial scholarship – a well-loved Livermore High School student who tragically died in an accident last August, just shy of his sixteenth birthday. The scholarship is generously funded by anonymous community members who value Hunter’s friendliness, work ethic, and desire to pursue a career working with his hands. The Hunter Diemert Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a Pedrozzi Scholar applying for a Vocational Scholarship or ABC NorCal Tool Scholarship.
- Varde Draggoo and Albert Nielsen Career/Vocational Scholarship – will be awarded to a Pedrozzi Scholar applying for a Vocational Scholarship or ABC NorCal Tool Scholarship.
To be considered for the above scholarships, applicants simply need to indicate their field of study and intended major in the application and use the optional section of the application to share why they choose their field of study.
In addition to applying for a Pedrozzi Scholarship, the Foundation encourages all high school seniors to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), or California Dream Act Application to access all federal, state and school aid for which they are eligible.
The 2023 scholarship awards will be at least $1,000 per year, up to a maximum of 4 years, depending on the scholarship.
A past recipient shared, “I work a minimum wage job. Due to my $4,000 Pedrozzi Scholarship, I spent hundreds of hours studying instead of working.”
